I soon realized the harsh reality that many woman in their early 20s learn...

The timbits, street-meat and full fat lattes (whatever your poison may be) WILL catch up with you. Gone was the tight teenage figure that could develop abs after 1 set of crunches, and unfortunately, this epiphany came to me after a couple years of “letting myself go”. I was too young to give up, and couldn’t accept that my prime was potentially behind me!

I wanted to get fit, but I hated going to the gym because I didn't know what to do there - which usually resulted in 20 minutes on the elliptical and another 20 in the hot tub/sauna. I did the gym thing (irregularly), and even tried some workout videos at home, but I lacked intensity and would give up easily. Because of this I decided, and matter-of-factly told my bodybuilding boyfriend, "I'm just not the working out kind of person."

After another year of watching him get into even better shape, while I sat on the couch with a box of cookies and ate just as much for dinner as he did, I finally decided that to achieve the results I wanted, I would call in the big guns. That's when I got in touch with Alli Ross.

I budgeted to train with her twice a week for 3 months, in preparation for Christmas holidays in Barbados. Together we overhauled my diet and got down to business in her new studio.

It was never easy, but Alli always knew what I could handle, when I could lift more, and how to push me psychologically to get the most out of my workouts. After every session, the sweat, muscle fatigue and soreness was a reminder of why I was there. She pushed me to an intensity level that I couldn't reach on my own, and after the first month, I started to feel more confident at the gym and was making my time there worthwhile! My clothes weren’t as tight, I felt lighter, and friends were commenting that I looked leaner. After 2 months, I had lost 4 inches of fat around my stomach, and the changes to my lifestyle felt exhilarating!

During my 3 months with Alli, I learned so much about health and fitness and about my

own capabilities and mental blocks. Because of her, I'm far more confident in the gym, and actually look forward to going - even on leg day! When I'm training on my own, I can hear her in my head saying things like "make these last 2 really good ones" and "you've come all this way, don't give up now!" She not only helped me change they way I look, but managed to change the way I THINK about working out - and that’s pretty amazing!
